Kristen and Shane’s Elegant Bali Wedding at Villa Tamarama in Uluwatu
Kristen and Shane’s love story first began in true romantic style – a high school crush and a cheeky Facebook message!
After a sweet proposal by the Hollywood sign during an epic trip around America, these two lovebirds decided to get hitched in one of their favourite holiday destinations, beautiful Bali. Wanting to make their wedding celebrations last as long as possible, it was the perfect location to escape with their closest friends and family for a week to remember.
Their day was complete with a breathtaking venue, pretty pastel florals, and refined, elegant styling. Taking place clifftop at the stunning Villa Tamarama in Uluwatu, guests enjoyed panoramic ocean views as Kristen and Shane exchanged vows underneath an incredible floral arch filled with blush, white and coral blooms.
The talented team at Global Weddings helped Kristen and Shane create their dream Bali celebration from beginning to end, with our bride describing her wedding planning experience as totally stress-free. With Kristen’s love for refined styling, pastel tones and a white and green palette, the Global Weddings team created an elegant sit-down reception using classic white linens, crystal chandeliers, soft fairy lights and colourful floral arrangements.
No detail was overlooked, from the personalised wooden fans for guest favours, to the incredible choc mud and vanilla choc-chip cake from Ixora Cakes. After devouring a three-course menu and plenty of cocktails, festivities continued with an epic pool party and a whole lot of fun, love and laughter to wrap up an amazing day of celebrations.
Captured so beautifully by the Imaj Gallery team, we think these photos tell the perfect story from Kristen and Shane’s unforgettable Bali wedding. Check out some of our favourite snaps below, along with some words of advice and destination wedding planning tips from the bride and groom!
How we met:
Shane and I both attended the same high school. I was two years above Shane so wasn’t paying too much attention to him at the time, although I knew who he was! Apparently he had a crush on me – cute! But being the ‘older girl’, he left me alone. It was when Shane was almost 21 and I was 23 that he decided to send me a Facebook message with a ‘yo’. I was very hesitant to reply but I did, and I’m so happy I did! The conversation never stopped. We were in a relationship within a few weeks!
The proposal:
Shane and I were on a 4 week holiday travelling around America. It was a trip of a lifetime for us. On our second day of travels whilst in Los Angeles we planned to go to see the Hollywood sign! Before this, we spent the morning visiting the Charmed house – my favourite show of all time. It was already the most amazing and surreal morning.
Whilst hanging around in front of the Hollywood sign, taking photos etc, just as we were about to leave I turned around to see Shane on one knee asking me to marry him! Of course, I accepted very quickly and ecstatically. It was the best way to start our big America vacay! We were on a high for the next four weeks. It was just perfect.
The Details…
Wedding date: 1st June 2018
Wedding Ceremony & Reception Venue: Villa Tamarama, Ungasan Clifftop Resort
Total Guests: 32
Our style/Inspiration:
I didn’t realise at the time of planning but I seem to really like pastel! I think our style was elegant and bright. The white villa made for a beautiful backdrop and with the splashes of pastel from the flowers and bridesmaids dresses it all just worked so well. I didn’t want anything too over the top. I just wanted it to be pretty. I love my whites and greens, so Villa Tamarama was the ideal place.
Who we couldn’t have done it without:
Global Weddings. They were all over everything from day dot. I literally had no stresses leading up to the wedding (which I think is rare) and that’s because I knew everything was in safe hands. I think the flowers were my favourite part of the day (or at least one) they were more beautiful than I ever imagined so I couldn’t and wouldn’t have wanted to do it without the chosen florist – Wed in Bali.
Advice for future Bali Brides:
Definitely to look for a wedding planner. I wouldn’t want to do it all alone especially if you do not live in Bali. It would be far too much to take on (I think) so do some research for a planner that suits you ☺ Also to make the most of the trip. Enjoy lots of friend and family time pre and post-wedding. Make the celebrations last as long as you can haha (we did).
If you’re fussy about your hair and are prone to frizz also maybe consider an up style! I wore my hair down and the humidity got the better of me within minutes of leaving the villa!
Our Wedding Day…
Wedding Planner/Stylist:
I chose Global Weddings initially as they were Australian based and it just made me feel a bit more at ease. They also had great communication on our initial chats and covered all questions I had. I had a clear understanding on what to expect price wise, and I just felt comfortable and in good hands.
Décor/Furniture:
Our décor was quite simple. There were fairy lights, scattered candles and tea lights, chandeliers over a long table and vases of flowers. I’m not too great with DIY stuff so I kept it pretty simple with the above!
Flowers/Florist:
Our florist was Wed in Bali. WOW! The flowers were all so stunning. They were more amazing than I had expected. There were pastel pinks, coral and white roses with greenery. I had a big floral arch with the same colour scheme. That also was so much more amazing than I imagined! The flowers were perfect! I wish I could’ve taken all the flowers home they were so pretty.
Hair & Make-up:
We did our own hair. I’m pretty fussy with my hair and never love it when someone else does it so I waved it myself, as did the bridesmaids. Unfortunately, even though I spent hours on it with lots of ‘humidity shielding products’ nothing could stop my hair from turning into one big frizzy mess! My bridesmaids hair curls dropped a lot but their hair all still looked great. I think being a bleached blondie in Bali weather just didn’t mix. Oh well!
Our make up was done by Renee Petitt and her assistant. I met with Renee one year before the wedding and had a trial. I was so happy with her work. I could not fault it. I still felt like me, it wasn’t too heavy, it was just right! Renee and her assistant did such a great job on the wedding day. They did myself, brides and the mothers and everyone looked just perfect.
Photography:
Imaj Gallery. I had been stalking Imaj Gallery on Instagram for so long! Their work is elegant, natural and raw. I knew I wanted them for our special day. Agung and his team were so wonderful on the day. They made everyone feel so comfortable.
Videography:
Flipmax. They were great. We haven’t seen the video as of yet (as it’s only been a week haha) but I am so excited to see it. Their work looked fun and happy, which is why I chose them.
Favours:
We had little wooden fans with Kristen and Shane 01.06.2018 written on them. They are so cute. Everyone loved them. I now have one on display in my house!
Celebrant:
Greg Egli. Greg was efficient and lovely and did a great job with our ceremony. We felt very comfortable with Greg.
Catering:
By The Ungasan. We had a three course meal with drinks (wines, beers and cocktails), oh and also delicious canapes. The entrée was a alternate drop of prawns and a beef salad, the main was a chicken dish and dessert a delicious chocolate brownie icecream combo. Could not fault any of it. It was all immaculate and yummy!
Cake/Dessert:
Ixora Cakes. The cake looked so pretty and was exactly what I had imagined. We had one layer white mud choc and the other vanilla choc chip. Delish!
Stationery/Invitations:
I had them printed from Zazzle. They were white with greenery.
Entertainment:
We just had a DJ – Loco Hero. He did a great job. Everyone was in party mode and loving the music!
Transport:
Everyone got their own transport, either driver or taxis.
Gift Registry:
Seeing as everyone was making their way to Bali for us, we made it clear we didn’t expect any gifts.
Wedding Songs:
Down the aisle – Boyce Avenue, Just The Way You Are.
Signing songs – Beautiful soul – Boyce Avenue cover
Malibu – Boyce
First dance – Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up.
The Bridal Party Details…
Bride’s Dress:
MillaNova. My dress was a mermaid fit. It was two tones, backless, very detailed with hints of sparkle. Loved it so much.
Bride’s Shoes:
My shoes were gold heels with cute little bows on them by Fiebiger.
Bridesmaid’s Dresses:
They were pastel blue from Forever New. They were flowy and very Bali appropriate. I knew the pastel blue would look magical at Villa Tamarama against the whites, greenery and the clifftop ocean/sky views.
Bridesmaid’s Shoes:
The girls all wore beige block heels.
Groom’s Attire & Shoes:
Shane’s suit jacket was a light grey from caliber, the rest of his outfit plus the groomsmen was from Tarocash.
Jewellery:
I picked a beautiful gold crown with matching earrings from Jeanette Maree. It is probably one of my most favourite things of all time, well definitely one of the prettiest things I own!
The rings:
Mine was from Gerard Mccabe to match my engagement ring. Shane’s was just a black titanium ring off Ebay – we are getting him a nicer ring in the future!
Honeymoon Details:
We are travelling to Queenstown New Zealand for our honeymoon in September right after my 30th birthday, yay! I can’t wait.
The final part…
Where did you find your styling inspiration for your Bali wedding?
Lots of Instagram and Pinterest stalking. My style and ideas really didn’t change too much over the year plus planning. I knew what I wanted!
What was the hardest part about planning a destination wedding?
I was a little stressed just at the thought of putting friends and family out by having to travel overseas for our wedding. I felt pretty guilty and anxious about it all for a while. But Shane and I knew we 100% wanted to get married in Bali, and nothing was going to stop us – however leaving our two dogs Indy and Lily is always hard. I didn’t like doing that. Lucky enough one of my bridesmaid’s sisters took good care of them so that put my mind at ease. Usually my mum would, but she was of course with us!
Why did you choose Bali as your wedding destination?
We love Bali so much. It was our first holiday overseas together (and Shane’s first overseas trip in general). We’ve been back a few times and always make the best memories there. It’s just a beautiful, fun place.
How did you stay organised while planning a destination wedding?
A good old fashioned spreadsheet, and of course a wedding planner.
Budget:
Well, what started as we don’t wanna spend more than 20k ended up being about 45k! That was including the holiday for a week also, flights, accommodation etc – everything! We could’ve done it much cheaper but we didn’t want to do it anywhere else – it had to be Villa Tamarama! So we worked hard and got there.
Cost:
I don’t have an exact figure but around 45k including the weeks holiday in Bali.
