Kate and Nick’s Tropical Luxe Wedding at Villa Arika in Canggu

Real Bali Wedding: Kate & Nick's Tropical Luxe Bali Wedding in Canggu | The Bali Bride, Bali Wedding Directory

Lovebirds Kate and Nick first met at a small country pub and quickly became inseparable, with Kate cancelling her one-way ticket to London and never looking back! After a truly epic proposal in the Whitsundays, these guys decided to tie the knot in their favourite place (and self-described second home), beautiful Bali – a week-long celebration shared with nearly 100 of their nearest and dearest.

Armed with a giant excel spreadsheet and plenty of screenshots from our very own The Bali Bride Instagram, Kate and Nick set out to plan a tropical luxe wedding at the stunning Villa Arika in Canggu. Describing their wedding planning experience as totally stress-free, these guys were lucky enough to have the uber talented Kevin from Silver Lace Weddings on board to help create their perfect Bali nuptials – and we think you’ll agree he completely nailed it!

Set amongst the private villa gardens, Kate and Nick’s celebration was filled with fresh white and green tones, tropical blooms, and modern luxe details. A simple, organic ceremony setting was framed by lush green surrounds and swaying palms, complete with a sweet timber arbour draped in soft linen drapes and an aisle lined with a sea of white petals.

Post-nuptials, guests enjoyed cocktails and Bintangs on the lawn before sitting down for a magical dinner overlooking the ocean. A relaxed tropical vibe was created using earthy oak cross back chairs and intimate round tables, adorned with greenery wreaths, white roses, palm leaf placemats and soft glowing candles. Strings of fairy lights hung from above, while lanterns floated in the pool to create a truly romantic setting. As the sun went down, guests danced the night away barefoot on the lawn – but not before tasting the incredible 3-tier naked cake from Ixora Cakes (the perfect trio of vanilla, chocolate and raspberry).

Captured in such beautiful detail by the talented Terralogical team, check out all of the amazing images from Kate and Nick’s modern tropical Bali wedding below. Kate also shares her expert tips on planning the perfect destination wedding, and how she used The Bali Bride to source inspiration and advice in the lead up to their special day!

How we met:

Nick is from Noosa, Queensland, and for some crazy reason he decided to move 500 km inland to Roma in West Queensland for something different.

I grew up on a farm near there and had lived there most of my life, however I had recently bought myself a one way ticket to London. As fate would have it, one month after buying my ticket I met Nick at a local pub on a long weekend in June 2012 and pretty much we became inseparable. I made the decision to not go to London, but it was the best decision ever and we went to Europe for a holiday instead.

The proposal:

Nick and I are both fly in fly out workers, so we are always planning surprise getaways for each other in our time off. Nick didn’t tell me where I was going until the morning of our flight where he gave me some clues to guess. Lucky me, we were flying to the Whitsundays. The next day Nick had arranged a surprise helicopter ride to beautiful Whitehaven Beach where it was just us two, a picnic and a bottle of champagne. This is where he got down on one knee and made me the happiest girl alive! My surprises didn’t stop there though, he had also booked a sunset dinner cruise that afternoon and arrange for two of our close friends to fly up and celebrate with us the day after. It was an amazing week!

The Details…

Wedding date: 6th of May 2018
Wedding Ceremony & Reception Venue: Villa Arika, Canggu
Total Guests: 96

Our style/Inspiration:

Tropical luxe, we wanted to immerse in all the beautiful things of Bali, including the amazing sunsets, palm trees and warm balmy nights.

Who we couldn’t have done it without:

Kevin and his team at Silver Lace Weddings. We knew he was “the one” from the moment we met him and he helped make our day even more amazing than I could have imagined.

Advice for future Bali Brides:

The top advice I received was to get a videographer, and if it is doable in your wedding budget, I could not say it enough. Our wedding photos are amazing but our video is next level, it brings back all the memories of how I felt at that exact moment and I have watched it over and over again.

Our Wedding Day…

Wedding Planner/Stylist:

Silver Lace Weddings. We flew over to meet about five different planners, but Kevin was the only one who took the effort to get to know us before we got over to Bali. So instead of your usual sit down in a café meeting, Kadek and Kevin drove us around to some different Villas that they thought we would like, Villa Arika being one. We locked him in that night.

Décor/Furniture:

Décor – Sophie from BIP

Chairs – Sitha Supply

Flowers/Florist:

Sophie from BIP

Amazing! She took all my Instagram/Pinterest screenshots and turned it into something that was even better than I imagined.

Hair & Make-up:

Yeanne Makeup Art

Such an amazing team of people. I loved our hair and make-up and so did the girls. I also had a touch up after the photos and in between the reception, which I recommend. They took out my veil put some fresh beautiful flowers in my hair and I was ready to party all night.

Photography:

Budy from Terralogical

I cannot recommend Terralogical enough, the photos speak for themselves.

Videography:

The White Tree

Holy heck! These guys! They are an Australian company but do weddings in Bali as well. Our video is out of this world. I cry every time I watch it. We received 1 x Instagram edited video, 1 x Showreel that goes for about 10 minutes with all the cinematic effects and then 3 hours of raw footage from start to finish.

Favours:

We put on a bar tab at our recovery party as a thank-you to all our guests for coming.

Celebrant:

Bapak Joseph

Catering:

Lumbung Catering

Lumbung was recommended to us by Kevin and they did not disappoint. Their food is delicious and so well presented. Would recommend them to anyone.

Cake/Dessert:

Ixora Cakes.

So delicious, we did a cake tasting a couple of months before the wedding so we could choose the different tier flavours. My recommendations are the vanilla, chocolate and raspberry YUM!

Stationery/Invitations:

Purchased off Etsy and printed through Vistaprint

Entertainment:

Silaen Music played for our ceremony and during the cocktail hour before the reception, Silaen and her musicians are amazing. They even learnt my walk down the aisle song which was “Malibu” by Miley Cyrus but substituted the word Malibu to “Canggu” for me.

We used Rob from DJ Majestic to get the party started, he was awesome and we danced pretty much the whole night from the moment he started playing.

Wedding Songs:

Down the Aisle: Malibu by Miley Cyrus (with our own twist)
Signing of the certificate: Magic by Coldplay
Back down the aisle: Is this Love by Bob Marley
Reception entry: This Girl by Kungs vs. Cookin’ On 3 Burners
Cutting the cake: Joy of my life by John Fogherty
First dance: Pushin Up Daisies By Brothers Osborne

The final part…

Where did you find your styling inspiration for your Bali wedding?

The Bali Bride and Pinterest. I will admit that I am one of those girls who has dreamed of getting married since I was a little girl and I have been following The Bali Bride since before I was engaged. Most of my photos in my phone are just screen shots from their Instagram page.

What was the hardest part about planning a destination wedding?

Honestly, we found it pretty easy all thanks to Kevin, if I had to pick a hard part it would be having to make decisions on vendors that you have never seen before and just having to trust that Kevin and I were on the same page. A trip before the wedding defiantly helped with this though.

Why did you choose Bali as your wedding destination?

Bali is like a second home to Nick and I, we go twice a year (sometimes more) and it was also where we went on our first holiday together.

I don’t know how many times we said to each other “we are here in our favourite place in the world, with all our favourite people in the world”. We wanted to share with all our family and friends all the things we love about the island and for them to love it as much as we do.

Also the beauty of a destination wedding is getting to continue the celebration with everyone after the wedding day, most of our family and friends stayed in Bali for a week after so we had plenty of time to catch up with everyone and relax.

How did you stay organised while planning a destination wedding?

I am a spreadsheet fanatic! So one giant excel spreadsheet kept me organised ☺ and Kevin of course. Could not have done it without him.

Budget: 50K

Actual Cost: 48K (this included flights, our accommodation and a two week holiday)
