Emma & Tristan
Emma and Tristan are one of those genuinely loved-up couples whose adoration for each other is immediately obvious, simply from the way they look at one another. After initially meeting in a bowling alley way back in 2004, these lovebirds found themselves tying the knot in typical Bali fashion – an extended celebration in beautiful Seminyak, along with 30 of their closest friends and family. And it only takes a quick peek at their photos to see a day filled with happiness, laughter and unforgettable memories!
The incredible waterfront location of Cocoon Beach Club was the perfect fit for their vision of an elegant beach wedding, overlooking the world-renowned shores of Double Six beach. One of our Bali venue favourites, the modern architecture and tropical surroundings of the beautifully designed beach club really helped to set the scene for an amazing evening of celebrations.
After many months spent sourcing inspiration on Pinterest (a rite of passage for every bride-to-be!), the Cocoon team worked their magic to bring Emma and Tristan’s dream day to life. Vows were exchanged in a romantic indoor ceremony, surrounded by a delicate scattering of white petals at the altar and lush greenery spilling from oversized pots at either side. With the soft afternoon light filtering in through the venues striking glass windows, it was the perfect way to kick off their low-key celebrations.
An intimate long table draped in the palest lilac linen was paired with simple white rattan chairs for guests to dine in a naturally elegant reception. Table settings were beautifully styled with a mirrored runner, pastel florals in glass vases and plenty of tealights to create a soft and romantic ambience. Woven peacock chairs were covered in white roses, sitting pretty for the brand new husband and wife as they shared good food and wine amongst their tight knit crew.
It’s clear that every detail of the day was so thoughtfully considered, right down to the personalised Ray Bans gifted to their guests as a unique keepsake and the fireworks display organised by the venue during the cake cutting – a gorgeous creation by Ixora Cakes topped with sweet figurines of the bride and groom. As the evening drew to a close, guests gathered on the beach to release sky lanterns into the night, an unforgettable ending to their incredibly special day.

Advice for future Bali Brides: You don’t need to hire a wedding planner when choosing a venue with an in-house planner. If possible, head over before you book your venue, check out the venues, meet with the in-house planners and try to get the general vibe of the places you like. After we went to Cocoon (just for dinner, without them knowing we were looking at a wedding there) we loved the place and the staff were phenomenal. Set a budget, but have a little in reserves for those little extras!
Our Wedding Day…
Wedding Planner/Stylist: Jess from Cocoon. Jess was a phenomenal help. She had recommendations on photographers, hair and make-up artists and accommodation in the area.
Décor/Furniture: Styled to perfection by Cocoon Beach Club.
Flowers/Florist: Simple white roses provided by Tiger Lily Bali.
Hair & Make-up: Renee Pettit – Renee is an incredible MUA. The make-up did not move even through the Bali heat and tears. I would highly recommend Renee and her team! We chose Renee after I had a trial with another company which was awful! I booked Renee after reading reviews and just had to trust that it would be okay!
Photography: We used Bonjo from Terralogical. We wanted a photographer that wasn’t in your face and captured the raw and natural moments and Bonjo did all that plus more. When we received our wedding photos, we laughed and cried and relived the day. We booked Terralogical, once again because of word of mouth. Some of our friends in Australia had used them and their photos were incredible so went with them.
Videography: Our videographer was from Australia. Our videographer is family and offered to film our day. He captured our day and the feel of our day perfectly.
Favours: We asked Cocoon Beach Club to source personalised Ray bans. One side had our wedding date and the other said ‘Tristan and Emma’ – I have since seen these on their regular favour lists! These were a huge hit with our guests as they were different to the usual fans or stubby holders.
Celebrant: Greg Egli – what a champ! We didn’t meet Greg until 5 minutes before I walked down the aisle, but felt like I had known him for years. Greg was easy to communicate with and was a great celebrant.
Catering: Cocoon Beach Club. We were sold on Cocoon the first time we ate there (before we booked our wedding there). The food is incredible. Everything we sampled made it harder to make choices because it was all top quality and delicious.
Cake/Dessert: Ixora Cakes. The cake was a part of our package at Cocoon but the cake was delicious. They nailed the brief and supplied the cake that we had in mind and that perfectly fit our theme.
Stationery/Invitations: Bluebelle Studios in Adelaide. We found Kate from Bluebelle Studios at a Bridal Fair and knew instantly that we wanted to work with her to create our save the dates, invites and program fans. Kate is very creative and produced beautiful, top quality stationary.
Entertainment: In house DJ from Cocoon
Transport: Cocoon Beach Club provided us with their Golf Buggy as we were staying local. It was such a fun and different way to arrive!
Wedding Songs:
I walked down the aisle to our song which was Everytime we Touch by Cascada – but not the club version!

Cocoon assisted us in organising fireworks for cake cutting and our first dance. We also went across to the beach and released lanterns with our guests. This was something we loved and just helped us to create so many special memories.
The Bridal Party Details…
Bride’s Dress: MOIR design, purchased from Adelaide Bride’s and Bloom. This dress actually has a bit of a funny story. I’d spoken with my fiancé about heading to the store after work, but he phoned me and asked me to head home instead as he needed help. It was late night shopping so after dinner went around to the store to find that they’d changed their hours and had closed for the day. The following day, I raced there after work and began hunting for dresses. I found this dress, tried it on, and instantly knew it was the one. I was chatting with Paula (the owner) and discovered that the dress had only arrived that day.. so it was clearly fate.
Bride’s Shoes: I purchased Barefoot Sandals from a local Adelaide Company called, Starlite Creations – perfect for Bali!
Bridesmaid’s Dresses: Goddess by Nature Signature Multiway gown in Coral Kiss, purchased from Adelaide Bride’s and Bloom.
Bridemaid’s Shoes: Purchased their own
Groom’s Attire & Shoes: Suits purchased from Peter Shearer
Flowergirls/Page Boys: Junior Bridesmaid also dressed in Goddess by Nature signature multiway gown in Coral Kiss.
Jewellery: Bride’s jewelry purchased from Miss Martini in Hyde Park. Grooms and Groomsmen watches were purchased online from Chapter10 Watches. They were given AFL cufflinks as a part of their gifts.
The rings: Both wedding rings were purchased from Michael Hill Jeweler.
Honeymoon Details: We didn’t really have a honeymoon! We had guests over with us and wanted to make the most of our time with them. We went on day trips and just created more memories with them.
The Final Part…
Where did you find your styling inspiration for your Bali wedding? Pinterest! It was amazing. I found it tough at times to remember that it was for our actual wedding so got a little ‘save’ happy. But Tristan and I were able to go through and find what suited our themes and it all came together really well.
What was the hardest part about planning a destination wedding? Probably Bali time! Our vendors were pretty easy to communicate with but there was always a delay due to it being done through emails. It made it hard not being able to properly visualise or have a few meetings. When we visited Cocoon it was being renovated so we didn’t know what the final product would be… safe to say, the final product was incredible.
Why did you choose Bali as your wedding destination? We had been to Bali a few times on different holidays and love it. We loved the idea of holidaying with our family and friends so thought why not combine them!
How did you stay organised while planning a destination wedding? Quite easily! I had purchased a ‘Wedding Planner’ from KikiK which kept all our wedding stuff together. We used it to put our ideas and thoughts to paper. Tristan is big on excel so he would use that for budgeting and all the other bits and pieces. Tristan and I had been together for 10 years before we got married, so we’d already spoken about what we wanted so it was pretty well all organised before he proposed!
